Diet and Lifestyle Philosophy
“Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food”, was an expression attributed to Hippocrates, the so-called 'Father of Western Medicine', around 2500 years ago. However, it is ironic that medicine and food have become further apart in the current Western approach to treating and preventing disease; whereas in more traditional medicinal systems, food, herbs and physical therapies are still integrated to prevent and treat illness.
Scientific and traditional

My approach blends current Government and Health Agency advice with state-of-the-art scientific research and traditional approaches.
I have a strong background in Western researched-based nutrition theory, and have access to the latest scientific research on diet and lifestyle as well as current advice from Governments and Health Agencies.
Additionally, I also have a keen interest in traditional approaches to diet and lifestyle, especially those influenced by Ayurvedic medicine. These approaches have worked both for my own health, and for my clients. Interestingly, many of these traditional ideas are now being confirmed by Western scientific investigations (for example, mediation for reducing stress and anxiety).

Holistic and individual

Everyone is different. Everyone will react differently to diet and lifestyle advice.
Current diet and lifestyle advice (such as the '5-a-day' message) is a good starting point to assess diet and lifestyle. However, such advice can have limitations because: it is sometimes hard to understand and follow in practical terms; it often follows a 'one-size-fits-all' philosophy, which is not appropriate to each individual; it often doesn't consider the whole picture.
As well as showing you how to understand and apply diet and lifestyle advice easily, I treat you as a individual with your own requirements, and consider the whole picture of your own unique diet and lifestyle.

Gradual and step-by-step

Attempting to make a 1000 changes to your diet and lifestyle in a day is a recipe for disaster! Poor diet and lifestyle habits often develop over time. Therefore, it makes sense that good diet and lifestyle habits also need time to develop.
I use a step-by-step approach to make gradual changes tailored specifically to your needs. In this way, changes can be evaluated and modified to you individually. They eventually become good habits incorporated into your own lifestyle. That is why our programme is over a two month period - we make changes, review them, modify them if necessary, and keep those that work best for you as an individual.

Local and low cost

There is often an assumption that a healthy diet and lifestyle is expensive, and involves eating a lot of exotic (and bad tasting!) foods. I don’t believe that.
Although the UK diet is often held responsible for the poor health of our nation, our native diet is actually very healthy, tasty and inexpensive if we make the right choices. It isn't difficult to do, even with a busy lifestyle.
I am also a believer in seasonal, unprocessed and and locally-produced foods where possible. As well as being good for your health and for your pocket, it is good for the environment and good for the local economy.
